When Will Kittens Lose Their Teeth

When will kittens lose their teeth. Also like people cats lose their baby teeth. Most cat owners won t even notice a kitten has lost his tooth it is often lost in the home or swallowed. Their kitten teeth also referred to as primary milk or deciduous teeth and then their permanent or adult teeth. At around 4 weeks of age the canine teeth fangs have emerged and by 6 weeks of age the premolars have emerged.
By the time a kitten reaches six to seven months all of their 30 permanent teeth should have erupted. Some kittens may lose their baby teeth earlier and some may lag behind a bit. This is when true teething problems appear if you see your kitten losing teeth at around 12 weeks old don t worry it s normal. This happens just a few weeks after the baby teeth have erupted at the age of three to four months.
Kittens are born without teeth. Right around 3 months of age the deciduous teeth start to fall out and are replaced by adult teeth. Kittens start losing their baby teeth around 9 weeks of age and from that time until their adult teeth are fully grown in at 5 to 6 months you can count on lots of chewing action. Just like with human children the timeline for losing kitten teeth is pretty flexible.
At around 2 weeks of age the little incisors at the front of the mouth begin to show through the gums. These adult teeth are permanent. By this time the majority of the permanent teeth should have erupted provided there are no complications. However this is not a hard and fast rule.
Most of us acquire our kittens around 10 to 12 weeks of age or even a bit older. Around three weeks of age their kitten teeth will begin to erupt. Most kittens lose their baby teeth between the ages of 6 and 9 months. You may never even see the teeth as your kitten loses them as they are often lost during mealtime or through play.
By four months of age all of their 26 primary teeth should be visible. Cats should not lose any of them. Kittens are born without visible teeth. This is the time when the second phaseof teething begins.
Although the timing varies between animals as much as it does among humans the average kitten will have lost all her baby teeth by between 6 and 9 months old.
